At Fairhouse Primary School we expect pupils to achieve at least 96% attendance.
Regular school attendance is important for pupils to take full advantage of the education opportunities available to them. Education provides a means of advancement for all young people.
Frequent absence undermines the education process and pupils are disadvantaged and often underachieve. Please see the tables below to show the relationship between attendance and learning hours lost.

Term time holidays
The government has reviewed attendance policies within schools and have delivered attendance directives to schools. As schools are no longer allowed to authorise term time holidays, it is now their duty to contact Missing Education and Child Employment Service, with the details of any pupil they believe to have taken term time holiday.
The Missing Education and Child Employment Service may issue a penalty notice to each parent for £80 for each child to be paid within 21 days. If the penalty is not paid within the time scale, the penalty will increase to £160. If the higher penalty is not paid within 28 days, the Education Welfare Service will then initiate legal proceedings against the parent(s) in the Magistrate's Court under section 444 of the Education Act 1996 for failing to ensure their child attends school. If another penalty notice is given within 3 years of the first one, the second penalty notice will be £160 per parent, per child.
The matter will also be recorded on the child's school record.
Lateness
The school gates open at 8:40am. Children must be in class before the registers are taken at 8.50am. Children arriving after this time will be marked as late. Any child arriving after 9:20 am will receive an unauthorised mark for the morning session.
The school offers a breakfast club which has proved successful for children who struggle with their punctuality. Breakfast club is open between 8:00am, with last admission at 8.15am. The school cannot take responsibility for children waiting outside before breakfast club is open at 8:00am.
